Barossa Wine Tasting

South Australia is an incredibly vibrant region of the country, lauded for its wine, cuisine and nature. Be prepared to lose yourself in the open space and verdant, rolling landscapes…

The vibrant city of Adelaide embraced us with temperatures well above 100 degrees Fahrenheit upon arrival! Thank goodness the weather became unseasonable cool for the remainder of our short stay. The next day was perfect, in the 70s, and we were soon off to begin our tastings…

The Louise was indeed a Luxury Vineyard Retreat, set in a tranquil area in the heart of Barossa wine country. Our tasting arrangements were extra special, as we would be transported in a charming, historic antique car.

Our favorite vineyards were Powell & Son and Henschke. We savored our time in each establishment, conversing with proprietors and enjoying the expressive wines. The warm weather attracted us to white varietals and the standouts were the Marsanne-Roussanne blend of Powell & Son and the Henschke Chardonnay. Our orders would beat us home!

Our time was definitely too short and we look forward to visiting South Australia again in the Spring of 2021. We will certainly visit more wineries (and return to these favorites), but also look forward to discovering the incredible wildlife on our next sojourn…
