Hi. It’s Fritz here. Kareem and Suzanne can’t have all the fun so here’s what I have been doing as research for Culture Traveler. I returned to Michigan, yesterday, after a wonderful weekend in NYC with friends from Detroit and Cleveland. Amazing artwork, performances, cuisine. The city that never sleeps didn’t disappoint.
From an amazing ballet, to new exhibitions to wonderful food the weekend was a cultural immersion. NYC in the autumn- glorious Hispanic Museum and Library with its incredible Sorolla murals and Goya portraits, Manet/Degas at The Met, NYC Ballet, Keens, Cafe Luxembourg, Koloman, The Whitby Bar- one of my old time favorites. A perfect weekend !
A few highlights:
The Hispanic Museum and Library with the stupendous Visions of Spain, a monumental series of 14 huge paintings- worth the trip to New York. One of the best portraits in the US, the Duchess of Alba by Goya- also at the Hispanic Museum. This was my first visit (and the beginning of a love affair with this place). A little known jem of a collection.
At the Met, we spent several hours at Manet/Degas-not to be missed.
Two glorious performances of the NYC Ballet….all Balanchine this season.
Fabulous restaurants: three old favorites- Keens Steakhouse, The Whitby Bar,and Cafe Luxembourg-and a marvelous new place for me, Koloman.
Here are some photos to whet your appetite!
