Visit Historical Puebla City

An excellent guide truly brings a destination to life, providing unique personal and cultural insights. We provide this matchmaking for our travelers as well as for ourselves. Meet Alberto, a historian native to Puebla and our curator for these next few days.

We start our exploration with the 16th century church of San Francisco, also known as the “Church of the Five Wounds.” In all, Puebla has more than 70 churches and 2,000 historical buildings! The city’s importance was due to its location, a central trading post between key cities on the Pacific and Atlantic coasts. Puebla facilitated the transfer of goods from Asia to Europe and vice versa.

Next, we amble through the beautiful garden of San Francisco, adjacent to Puebla’s large convention center. Once in town, we are immersed in colonial architecture, featuring beautiful Talavera tile work. Puebla is the home of Talavera pottery. We will share more about this art of pottery when we visit one of the most renowned factories tomorrow.

The “House of Culture” features an informative exhibit about the city, but is most visited for Biblioteca Palafoxiana, the oldest library in the Americas, founded in 1646. We conclude our touring with Puebla’s iconic cathedral and bustling main square. What an incredible day!
